The Middle Is Missing

The middle is missing.  If I was talking about donuts, that would be fine, but I was talking about trying to book a hotel for a business trip.  I was on one of the travel websites and I started looking at the reviews.  After about ten minutes I gave up, according to one of the reviews the hotel was in a great location and central to every thing.  The next review of the same place suggested it was in the middle of a slum.  On and on at both ends of the pendulum it went.  Clean with friendly staff was counter balanced by disinterested staff and worn interior.

If I took the reviews to heart, I would never book a hotel because each one I looked at had at least a couple of horror stories.

This is why reviews on websites offer little in the way of help for making a decision.  The only thing that gets reviewed is the extreme view. If I love it or I hate it I write about it.  So I look to see who is winning on balance and go with those who have more positive than negative.  My next hotel is either going to have friendly staff or disinterested staff, centrally located or in a slum.  Somehow I think the answer might be in the middle.

Happy travels.
