If I hadn’t been sitting there I would not have believed it. Here was a sales person talking to a prospect and he utters the line “You’re probably not interested, but…” and then went on to tell the prospect all about his new offerings. Why would anyone ever say this? I equate this to the speaker who say during his speech “You probably can’t see this graph but…” this drives me crazy.
This is really simple – if you think I am not going to be interested in your product or service, if you don’t think I can read the slide, don’t put it in your presentation. If you use this technique to cushion disappointment, Stop it! No matter what you say after the sentence you are correct. I have no interest in moving forward.
